About

This is a sketchblog, or an artblog, or more precisely "what-ever-I-will-make-up-in-my-mind" blog of one visual junkie based in Espoo, Finland. I'm working as a full-time graphic designer for Rovio and I'm also in the middle of doing my thesis in the Lahti Institute of Design. I spend most of my time drawing, playing video games (I prefer console gaming), watching movies/TV, reading comics and hanging around in nature. And I don't regret nothing!

I own the copyrights to all pics, unless otherwise mentioned. Do not use them without my permission.

If there's anything I can help you with or you are just silently wondering something, don't hesitate to contact me via mail jenna.tahtinen(at)gmail.com

I really wish to be better what it comes to digital painting, unfortunately there’s no shortcuts. But isn’t this just a perfect friday, improving skills while listening/watching Da 10th Anniversary show of Les Mis? I made this for illustrationchallenge.com website’s jungle challenge but I missed the deadline day.Took me about 6 hours, is it still speed painting?

Hey, still here and sorry for being too busy! Here’s my summary of last year. 2013 was pretty good, or should I even say awesooome and mind-blowing, since the year 2009(?). It started from NYC trip and it was quite a kick-off for my career, as an illustrator & graphic designer. I just KNOW that the next year is going to be even better from that perspective (…and I used to have pessimistic view for things, hmh). I made two New Year’s promises and nope, getting fit and losing weight actually wasn’t one of those even though I’m working on with that too, ‘cause it’s healthy and important, especially for those who are doing sitting job, but nope, my New Year’s promise number one was to graduate (about time!) and learn to say “NO” to people and that’s because I want to focus on doing my very own projects on my free-time this year (after graduation project) and because last year was also a bit stressful, now it’s time to really have some time and light that fire again!Better late than never;

Few hours morning quickie. Mad Men is a strange tv show, even after second season I still don’t have a favourite character, everyone are so messed up (but it’s still good). Or I don’t even know is it really that messed up, they feel almost just too realistic persons, we all have our weird problems and desires but we don’t say those out loud. I guess I like Salvatore Romano just because he’s that handsome.-Muutaman tunnin aamuinen treenisessio.

Here’s a little something I made this morning. Just wanted to test things and try something different. I was inspired by Shane Prigmore and especially his Coraline designs. Damn, it’s hard for me to make something simple enough. The pose was just too stupid and odd in the sketch so I decided to change it for the final version.

It’s A-ME, when I was about 4-7 years old. I think I was very lucky to live around woods and rocks. I was adventuring in them almost every day so it is certain that I got a lot of little injuries. When I didn’t have bandages, I used birch leaves to stop my wounds from bleeding. My father used to make me bows from a willow tree.

And I’m going to NYC on the next week! How awesome is that!

-

Ja hei, meen ensi viikolla New Yorkiin! Kääk. Odotan kyllä jo innolla, että pääsen ottamaan kuvia paikasta.

I saw this kid on pinterest and I drew him to my sketchbook. He looks like a little fancy pants troublemaker.

Taas yllätin itseni tekemästä jotain muuta kuin koulujuttuja… Tyttöjä ja mursua. Toivottavasti selviän tulevasta kritiikkipäivästä.

The postman brought me some new books, I thought that I could introduce them to you once again in different posts.

STEAL LIKE AN ARTIST by Austin Kleon

Every artist is working under the influences and they need to gather their inspiration from somewhere (even if you’re not ready to admit it). The truth is that nothing is original. This book teaches right from wrong in this case and gives you precious tips (especially if you are beginner)  about how to work as an artist.

Summary of my stuff from last year.
JANUARY: Nothing much. But I got a brief from…
FEBRUARY: ..young singer Dimi/Dimitra Salo who wanted covers to her record.
MARCH: Was a pleasant and enjoyable time with silkscreen printing and I made up this “Padre Muerte” guy. I was pretty proud of him, and I still am. I’m glad that I got a few of them sold at my school’s Christmas fair. Too bad that t-shirts with this pic didn’t last quite good in a wash.
APRIL: This kitty was made for After Effects course.
MAY: Sketches from my A3-sized sketchbook. I had just bought it.
JUNE: Originally I made this for dA’s cubism competition. After voting I was told by judges that it doesn’t quite fit in “cubism”, so it never got anywhere. Also one of my favourite works from last year.
JULY: T-shirt that I made for my internship place.
AUGUST: I started doing some drawing challenge and I failed…again. Maybe I will continue it on someday.
SEPTEMBER: Just an interesting test work from some of my doodles on sketchbook.
OCTOBER: Skull for my website (still working on that!).
NOVEMBER: One of the Christmas cards I made. At first I wasn’t that sure of that pic and I was hoping that I’ll get a better idea for the cards but time was running out and I had to do something, so I decided to finish it anyway. Suprisingly they were selling really good!
DECEMBER: Really, really, really busy month. And it still going. That’s why I failed with this Batman calendar thing. :-( But I’m still going to make the rest of them when I have time.
